Ethics in medicine
Ethics in medicine raises the bar from the minimal standard of care set by law to the most optimal care possible. Ethics is different from morality in that it changes across cultures and over time, and medical ethics has gone through many transformations since the age of Hippocrates. The ethics in medicine of today strongly values both patient autonomy and just allocation of resources; principles that at times may conflict. How to best navigate this and other ethical dilemmas in the context of our aging population and amidst constant technological innovation is the bread-and-butter business of clinical and organizational ethics in medicine.
